SERP: The Search Engine Results Page

 If you go to any of the search engines the image below is what you would typically see after doing a search.  For this example we performed a search on Google for [hvac company atlanta].

 I encounter many that see this but miss pertinent info that puts showing up on this page in perspective.

The first is the search population. How many pages are trying to show up for this search? Under the search bar in fine print it indicates there were 17 million results from the search.  This populates for every search you do. This is just an indicator for how competitive some terms may be. and something to keep an eye on.

Section 1  Green 

Pay-per-click ( PPC ) ads. You can control what you  say and when you say it and who you say it to . You can show up top of page every time. You only pay when the ad is clicked. What customers typed that turn to sales can be determined. 

 

Section 2 Yellow

This section is the map listing.  Google determines which business show based on the location of the search. Fully set up profiles and clients with active reviews impact your discoverability. 

 

Section 3 Blue 

This is where organic listings begin. Google determines which sites out of the overall results show above the fold. 

 Businesses compete against each other and other publishers to appear in search results for your business category. Googles algorithm determines who has the most authority and relevancy.
