Core Web Vitals Assessment: Failed?

In 2021 Google incorporated Core Web Vitals with their existing signals of page and user experience. Core Web Vitals are groups of specific factors and corresponding scores for things Google considers important in a webpages overall user experience. Each of the Core Web Vitals represents a distinct facet of the user experience.  Users prefer sites with a great page experience so google use core web vitals to rank sites based on the following performance metrics.   Learn more about Yslow scores here.

What Are Core Web Vitals?

We have listed the primary core web vitals and their total towards the assessment score.

1. Loading – How fast your page loads or appears to load – 55%

First Contentful Paint

First Contentful Paint (FCP) is a performance metric that measures how quickly visitors can view any actual content. Specifically from the beginning of your page load to the point any content is rendered on the screen. A fast FCP reassures the user that something is happening during your page load; a slow FCP implies that it’s not doing anything, and thus is slow.  Anything faster than 200 milliseconds  is good.

Speed Index

How quickly your page renders above the fold. Overall performance benchmark.

Largest Contentful Paint

Largest Contentful Paint

LCP measures how long it takes for the largest “content element” on your page to become visible; typically your slider images.  This is the one of the most important aspects, it accounts for 25% of your overall score.  Compress or smush your videos and images.  Smaller files sizes are faster to download.

2. Interactivity – How usable your page is while loading = 40%

Time To Interactive

Time to Interactive (TTI) is measures a page’s load responsiveness and will identify situations where a page looks interactive but actually isn’t.

Total Block Time

Measures the total amount of time your webpage was blocked, preventing the user from interacting with your page.

3. Visual Stability – How stable your page is while loading. = 5%

Layout Shift

CLS measures the unexpected shifting of web elements while the page is being rendered.

The speed of your website is more important than ever, end users will leave websites if the load time takes more than a couple of seconds, every moment counts to capture attention and maintain your conversion rate.
